A dental implant acts like an artificial tooth root. It is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. They are an innovative solution for patients who have lost their tooth/teeth due to trauma, breakage, decay, periodontal disease or injury.
Compared to dentures, dental implants are a popular and effective long-term solution for patients who suffer from missing/failing teeth or chronic dental problems. Once placed in the mouth and restored with a dental crown, they are permanent and do not need to be removed daily like dentures or partial dentures.
Dental implants typically have three different parts:

Dental Implants are a titanium post that is designed to replicate the root structure of a tooth. This post is inserted into the jaw bone and a custom crown is fabricated to fit feel and function like a natural tooth.
They are ideal for adults who have lost one or more teeth.
When natural teeth are extracted the underlying jaw bone will naturally shrink and recede. While that happens the neighbouring teeth can also start to shift into the empty space. This can negatively affect the bite, so dental implants are required to preserve the jaw bone and support the bite.
After a faulty tooth is removed the whole area will be allowed to heal for a few months. At that point, we will take a CBCT scan or a 3D X-ray to plan for the implant! It will then be placed and allowed to heal for about 3-6 months. Then the lab will fabricate a custom crown then the crown will be inserted.
Typically our process begins with a CBCT scan or 3D X-ray. The X-ray will be used to customize your implant procedure. The implant can then be inserted into the jaw bone using local anesthesia. Since the jaw bone doesn’t have any of its own nerve supply, most patients report that the healing is relatively pain-free! Once the implant is healed after a few months a dental crown can be made and inserted. If well maintained, a dental implant could be expected to last a lifetime!
